How to allow SMS permission for the Envelope app?

On some Android devices, the SMS permission for the Taxicaller Envelope app may appear greyed out and cannot be enabled directly. This is expected behaviour on newer Android versions and is caused by restricted settings introduced in Android.

Apps that can send or read SMS messages are treated as higher risk, so Android blocks these permissions by default. To enable them, restricted settings must first be explicitly allowed for the app.

If the Allow button for SMS is white or greyed out, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Apps
  3. Select Taxicaller Envelope
  4. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner
  5. Select Allow restricted settings
  6. Enter your phone PIN or unlock method when prompted

Once this is enabled, the previously greyed-out permissions can be changed.

Enable the SMS permission

  1. Still under Settings → Apps → Taxicaller Envelope, open Permissions
  2. Select SMS
  3. Choose Allow

The SMS permission should now be active and selectable.
