OBD2 Dongle: Accuracy is the Name of the Game
You may have heard about the OBD2 dongle and wondered if it is something that you should get. This post will tell you what to get, how to install, and what the benefits are of using this small blue-tooth enabled device to get more accurate taximeter readings so you don't miss out on a single bit of profit from GPS issues.
Why Should I Use It?
When solely using your phone's GPS to track the distance driven, it can lose signal so it doesn't account for the distance traveled while the signal was down. So, what are the benefits of using the OBD2 dongle? Well, having this device installed in every vehicle allows for more accurate distance readings, making sure you are always charging the most accurate price per trip.
The dongle is connected directly to the car and uses the car's speed to calculate the distance driven. It gives you and your drivers peace of mind to know that you always have an accurate reading and that you are always charging your passengers the correct amount for their trip. When you only depend on your phone's GPS system, you could be losing a lot of money, especially if there is a certain area where the signal always gets dropped.
We want you to have the most accurate readings and since it's just not always possible to rely on GPS, we made the TaxiCaller system compatible with the OBD2 dongle.
If you're still unsure, try one out to get a feel for it. Once you see how easy and useful it is, you can get them for your whole fleet!
Get Started
The first thing is to simply buy an OBD2 dongle. These can easily be bought online, and they don't cost very much (which is always a huge plus in our book). There are some different options out there but as long as you make sure it is the ELM 327 Bluetooth version it will work perfectly with the TaxiCaller system.
Once you have the dongle, the next step is to set it up. Here’s how it’s done.
- Plugin the dongle to the little port under the car's dashboard on the driver's side (the same spot mechanics plug in their diagnostic tool to check if there are any problems with the vehicle).
- Turn on the driver's phone’s Bluetooth setting.
- Connect the dongle to the phone by putting the ignition in the ON position.
- Add and pair the phone to ELM327.
From now on, it will automatically pair as long as the phone's Bluetooth is enabled. Congratulations on avoiding any more involuntary discounts and replace them with a higher revenue!
